YOU'RE FIRED!
After Four seasons, the Los Angeles Charges decided to fire their head coach Anthony Lynn. The news was posted on ESPN on Monday. On ESPN.com, a statement was released.
This morning I informed Anthony Lynn that we have made the decision to part ways with him as our head coach. I'm not sure there is another person in this league more respected as a human being than Anthony, and I want to sincerely express my deepest gratitude for his leadership during a time of great change for our organization,’ Spanos said in a statement.
As we all know, this is a results-driven business and, simply put, the results of the past two years have fallen short of expectations. Moving forward, we will redouble our efforts to both build and maintain a championship-caliber program. We have been innovative in many facets of our organization in recent years, and we need to carry that over to our entire operation. Our fans need to know that the Los Angeles Chargers are committed to consistent, winning football. The
search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
Lynn wasn’t known as a bad coach, however he was struggling to lead the team to playoff victory. Justin Herbert had kind words to share as the news of the firing came to the media. He said “Its a tough situation, I believed in coach Lynn, I enjoyed our time working together. I
believe in this locker room and believe well be better, [he] allowed me to step up and be a leader, taught him me a lot of things about how to manage a huddle, how to step in there and take command.”
Lynn had a tough season just like most coaches, but for the Chargers this was the last straw. According to SI.com , “This season has just been downright bad. All around. The Chargers went blow for blow against some of the best teams in the NFL but couldn’t finish those games off. The defense, at times, couldn't make tackles or stop the opposing offense. Special teams were a nightmare this season.”
Hopefully the team finds a new head coach soon and finally gets the great season they were looking forward to having with Anthony Lynn. As of right now, the team is still looking for a coach.
Coach Anthony Lynn has not yet released a statement about the firing or have had any comments about it.
