Tough Love or Abuse?
Social media DON”T MISS NOTHING CHILE! A video surfaced of a youth football coach from Georgia hitting his 9 year old player TWICE during a timeout in an American Youth National Football Championship game recently in Florida.
Gerrel Williams, the head coach for the Savannah Gators 9 year old football team, was seen on video open handed hitting the young man and unphased by anyone watching. As the youngster walked off the field, he hit him with a foreman straight to the face and not to long after, bashed him with a shot to the head and the 9 year old fell to the ground. The head coach then grabbed him by the helmet and pushed him off the field before ignorantly calling for another kid to come take his place.
NO ONE came to this child’s aid, not even his parents. In a twisted turn of events, Williams was employed by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office! But he was fired shortly after the video went viral!
Although he was not a Sheriff, he served as a counselor in the detention center. Sports figures such as Shannon Sharpe and LeBron James expressed their disgust for what the coach did! Blogs and news stations reported on the video as well which caused the disgraced coach to issue an apology.
“I’m not going to make excuses for what I did. I was wrong. I shouldn’t have disciplined him in public, I should’ve waited
until we got back,” Williams said.
“At the end of the day, I apologize to him, the kids, the
city down here and my family back at home.” He also stated that he didn’t have to explain himself to anyone who disagreed with what he did.
American Youth Football banned Williams indefinitely from future events and activities.
What makes the story even more intriguing is the child’s mother was aware of the video and decided not to press charges and even forgave the coach. But the sheriffs department reviewed the video and decided the former football coach will be hit with child abuse charges.
