Pandemic Playoffs
The NCAA was struggling to get through with many games canceled due to infections of players and coaching staff throughout the league. The top rankings games took place on Saturday to fight for the chance to play in the National Championship.
It started with #4 Ohio State beating #14 Northwestern in the BIG TEN Championship Game 22-10 all on the back of Trey Sermon’s 29 carries, 331 yards and 2 touchdowns, and solid defense. Then followed the ACC Championship game where #3 Clemson beat Notre Dame 34-10 as Trevor Lawrence looked like an NFL ready quarterback in spite of his early first quarter interception.
Finally the game that completes the process of the playoff bracket the SEC Championship as #1 Alabama defeats #7 Florida 52-46. Mac Jones had a heisman contending performance with his 418 yards passing and 5 touchdowns.
Now the bracket is down to 4 teams with #1 Alabama will be facing #4 Notre Dame and the winner of each game will face each other in the National Championship. Ohio State has gotten a lot of criticism on if they deserve their spot in the playoffs due to the lack of games they’ve played due to COVID, but now is their chance to show that they do in fact belong in the conversation.
Also, Notre Dame looks to bounce back from their embarrassing loss, and a possible national championship rematch may occur between Clemson and Alabama, as Clemson cruised past Alabama 44-16 in 2019. We will get our answers soon enough as the games will take place on New Year's Day.
