Koryn Hawthorne Releases New Video, Elevation Worship's "Graves Into Gardens”

As the daughter of a minister, Koryn Hawthorne was introduced to music and discovered her musical talent while singing in church. Hawthorne is an Abbeville, Louisiana native, and she sang locally throughout high school, from festivals and small gatherings to charity fundraisers and health care facilities. At just 16 years old, Hawthorne excelled on the NBC music competition The Voice; she was initially picked to be on Christina Aguilera's team, was then "stolen" by Pharrell Williams, and placed on his team wherein the end, she landed in fourth place overall. After receiving such success at a very young age, doors just continued to open for her. Koryn Hawthorne was then signed to RCA Inspiration, where she started working on her debut EP. From there, she only prospered, receiving numerous awards, including the Billboard Music Award for Top Gospel Song, the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Gospel Album, and the GMA Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel/Urban Recorded Song of the Year, to name a few. Her first EP was released in 2015 and was a collection of all her performances on The Voice. In 2017 she released original music on her self entitled (Koryn Hawthorne) EP; in the following year, she released her first album entitled (Unstoppable), then in September of 2020, she released her second album entitled (I Am). One month later (October 2020), she released her latest musical work (The Song Sessions), which features 3 stellar pieces by Hawthorne. One piece featured in The Song Sessions is “Graves Into Gardens,” which Koryn Hawthorne just released a new video for.

The video for “Graves Into Gardens” premiered on October 30, 2020, on YouTube. Now, just a few weeks later, the video has racked up thousands of views and likes. The song was written by Chris Brown, Brandon Lake, Tiffany Hammer, and Steven Furtick. In the video, Koryn Hawthorne sings the beautiful lyrics to the song in the acoustic version, sitting surrounded by a talented group of musicians (guitarist, keyboardist, and drummer). Her vocals are full of emotion and tender as she praises the Lord for giving her the love she searched for but couldn't find anywhere else. Hawthorne immediately grabs the listener's attention with her soulful voice effortlessly flowing out, “I searched the world, But it couldn’t fill me, Man’s empty praise, and treasures that fade, Are never enough.” She continues with, “Lord there’s nothing, nothing is better than you, I’m not afraid, To show you my weakness, My failures and flaws, Lord you’ve seen them all.” Hawthorne graciously belts out, “You turn mourning to dancing, You give beauty for ashes, You turn shame into glory, You’re the only one who can.” The song is very genuine and candid, and the video only adds to its authenticity.

With Koryn Hawthorne trailblazing through the Gospel music industry, she is definitely one to watch. If you haven’t listened to The Song Sessions, you need to. That and her past musical work is available on all musical platforms.
