How to Transition your wardrobe from summer to fall

It can always be fun when the seasons change when it comes to fashion. Speaking as someone who loves the fall weather; I was born and raised in Jamaica for most of my life, so I am very familiar with the fall season. Simply put, the best way to transition your closet from summer to fall is to focus on the colors that are being put together as well as layering accordingly. It is a transition from brighter colors from yellow, pink, green, red etc. to darker toned colors such as burnt orange, navy, burgundy etc. In the summer we tend to usually wear brighter tops, a variety of patterns, and lightweight fun dresses; in addition to different colors to complement our environment/ surroundings such as light breathable fabrics.

The temperature typically starts to change around mid-September/ early October so around that time would be ideal for the start of transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall. Here are 5 helpful tips below on how to make your transition from the warm season to the cool season smoother.

1. The number one acknowledgment for transitioning is layering. You can start with your bases: dresses, tops/sweaters, bottoms, jumpsuits. Layer number two include items such as lightweight jackets, cardigans, and long sleeves to wear underneath short sleeve/ strapless garments. Layer three should include items such as gloves, tights, socks, leg warmers, scarves, hats, and gloves. The last layer should consist of trench coasts/puffer coats and warm shoes.

2. Transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall in other words is all about incorporating a fall color palette to your outfits and focusing on fall-specific materials in order to be comfortable. Being able to match your colors up with your outfits will give you more of an assembled and balanced look. Go for a Fall Color Scheme, think of warmer tone colors such as brown, orange, camel, green, or navy; these colors feel like fall. A burgundy skirt or an olive-green dress would be an excellent choice, one that is not too overwhelming from your typical summer outfits/colors.

3. Add in fall accessories, you can start with pairing a leather jacket, suede, or even an oversized cardigan with a lightweight blouse; or simply swapping your summer handbag out for a more fall-inspired look like a suede handbag. Jewelry is another way of adding a great statement and transforming a simple look!

4. Incorporate appropriate fall shoe options! Booties are perfect to kickoff to the fall season with. Summer shoes you would generally transition from are such as sandals, any open-toed shoes, to sleek boots, Ugg's, or more comfortable closed-toed shoes such as flats or sneakers.

5. Repurpose your summer clothes! Do you have a favorite summer dress that you're not ready to store for the rest of the year? The good news is you don't have to. Layering helps you wear your summer pieces in the fall and winter. Word of caution, if you are looking to be on-trend make sure the color and silhouette work for the winter season.
