A choice to change the world: Spelman college inducted its largest freshman class.
When you think of Atlanta, Georgia, you think of sweet hangout spots, stardom, and of course, Spelman College, home of the Lady Jaguars.
Ranked as the number 1 Historically Black College for the last 14 years consecutively, Spelman is home to all things Black Girl Magic. Not to mention, it is every rapper’s favorite school to mention in their verses. Shoutout to Trinidad James!
Beyond the external glamour and hype, the women’s liberal arts college is home to some notable, world-changing alumnae such as Marian Wright Edelman, Alice Walker, Esther Rolle, Stacey Abrams, and Keshia Knight Pulliam, just to name a few. And even with the excellence just named, the college makes it clear that the producing of groundbreaking women is far from over as they inducted their largest freshman class this August, consisting of about 900 students.
In March of 2021 as the 2020-2021 college application season came to an end, Spelman College released data expressing that the college experienced its highest application pool in the College’s 140-year history totaling more than 11,000 applications.
The College’s Director of Admissions, Chelsea Holley stated, “Students are drawn to Spelman because of its strong programs and its legacy of producing inspirational leaders. The story of Spelman is one that invokes pride, belonging and historical significance.”
Proving her sentiments to be true, on August 22,2021, around 900 young women dressed in their traditional white-attire as they were officially inducted into the sisterhood. A multitude of nationalities, majors, and backgrounds now all bound together through their mutual choice to change the world.
