Culture’s Biggest Night….
2021 BET Awards

The Return of the BET Awards was EPIC!
The 2021 BET Awards started off with Kirk Franklin and Lil Baby performing their single “We Win”. This was one of my favorite performances of the night. Migos and Cardi B did a star-studded performance while Cardi premiered her baby bump with child #2. Money Bagg Yo then takes the stage and raps his two hit songs “ Wockesha and Time Today”. H.E.R then graced the stage as she performed her latest single “ We Made It”. The Hot Girl herself, Megan THEE Stallion did an outstanding routine to her single Thot Sh*t and shut the stage DOWN with her hands on her knees. The one and only Jazmine Sullivan sang the audience under their seats for the first half of her performance. Ari Lennox joined her as they performed their joint single. It was the grace, poise, and vocals for me. Tyler the Creator, Roddy Rich, Da Baby, Lil Nas X, Andra Day did their individual performances as well. The City Girls understood the assignment when they performed their latest hit “Twerkulator”. The DMX Tribute was the most memorable. Method Man, Swizz Beats, Busta Rhymes and more paid homage to the great late DMX. Rapsody, Monie Love, MC Lyte, and Lil Kim gave an AMAZING tribute to LEGEND Queen Latifah. DJ Khaled brought Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Da Baby, H.E.R., Megan The Stallion back to perform and close out the show.
Silk Sonic took home the award for “Best Group”. Giveon snatches the “Best New Artist” award while H.E.R. won “Best Female R&B Artist”. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion won “Video of The Year” for WAP. Megan Thee Stallion also came through with winning “Best Female Hip Hop Artist and Viewer’s Choice”. Lil Baby won “Best Male Hip Hop Artist” and Jazmine Sullivan did it for the culture by winning “ Album of the Year” for HeauxTales. Queen Latifah received the long overdue Lifetime Achievement Award.
Jazmine Sullivan, Queen Latifah, and Megan Thee Stallion got their flowers tonight. The recognition, the success, the energy all screams BLACK AF! Taraji P. Henson was by far my most favorable host. This year’s awards gave exactly what it was supposed to give chile…
Until Next Year...
