Fall Skin Care Prep

The temperature is about to drop soon so it is time to update your skin care products and routine. These items are a must have and the keys to perfect skin: cleansers, toners, exfoliators, masks, serums, moisturizers, and sunscreens. Yes, I said sunscreen even in the fall.

The two cleansers that you need in your vanity are oil and gel. Oil cleansers get rid of dirt, oil, and makeup from your skin. This type works better than any makeup remover you may have already because it gets deep down in your pores. I recommend using this cleanser on dry skin once a day for only 30 seconds.

Gel cleansers are some of the most common cleansers. This type is what makes your skin feels fresh, soft, and clean. Using a gel cleanser on damp skin twice a day for 60 seconds or more will hydrate your skin.

Toners are recommended after every step of your skincare routine to restore your skin’s Ph balance. Toners also help with hyperpigmentation. You should apply a toner twice a day.

Exfoliators are best to remove dead skin cells. Exfoliating prevents clogged pores and dry, flaky skin. You can buy exfoliators or make your own. Some ingredients in exfoliators help with hyperpigmentation, dark spots, enlarged pores, fine lines, and many more skin problems many of us suffer from. I recommend using an exfoliator at least once a day.

Incorporating a mask in your daily skin care routine at least 3 times a week helps with removing any impurities from your skin. It also helps with hydrating skin and improves the appearance of your pores.

Serums are helpful for skin brightening, wrinkles, pigmentation, and redness. Using this product twice a day before moisturizing locks in the moisture, and leaves your skin looking beautiful.

Because of the temperature change, a good moisturizer is one of the holy grails to your fall skincare routine. After you have applied a moisturizing, you will look like a glazed donut; however, your skin will love you forever. The point of a good moisturizer is to keep your skin even toned. Be sure to always pick a moisturizer that is good for your specific skin type.

Even though the sun and heat are not as turned up in the Fall, a sunscreen should still be applied in your morning skincare routine. Many sunscreens leave us black girls looking ashy, but Black Girl Sunscreen came to our rescue to solve this problem. The purpose of any sunscreen is to of course protect our skin from the UV rays of the sun, but it can also help with the appearance of pores and dark spots from acne/hyperpigmentation.

Your Fall/Winter skincare routine is one of the most important seasonal routines to keep up with. Not only will keeping your skin intact and flawless look good, it will make you feel good on the inside especially for those who suffer from seasonal depression. Being consistent with your skincare routine will have you glowing even without the sun!
