Stellar Gospel Music Awards 2020
The 35th Annual Stellar Awards premiered on BET NETWORKS on Sunday, August 23rd. The “Greatest Night in Gospel Music” went from a physical event to a virtual production due to COVID-19. The two-hour special was hosted by an award-winning trio, Kirk Franklin, Jonathan McReynolds, and Koryn Hawthorne. The ceremony was filled with anointing and the celebration of black spiritual artists who have consistently blessed the industry with their music. If you missed it, don’t worry! The program will run its course in 210 markets from August 29th to September 27th, so be sure to check your local listings.
Presented by Entertainment One, the show acknowledged all award winners from the “Road to Stellars” pre-show and main show, and they also paid homage to first responders who helped aid people during the corona-virus outbreak. As a result of honoring these first-responders, the trio of hosts visited various states to honor and acknowledge our front-liners. Another main highlight was Cece Winans’ beautiful tribute to the late Congressman John Lewis.
Nominees for various awards included, Donald Lawrence Presents the Tri-City Singers, Kirk Franklin, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, JJ Hairston, John P. Kee, Kurt Carr & the Kurt Carr singers, William Murphy, Pastor Mike Jr. , Miranda Curtis, and Fresh Start Worship. Performers at the upcoming Stellar Awards include Marvin Sapp, Anthony Brown, CeCe Winans, James Fortune, Kierra Sheard, Tauren Wells, and more!
To give an overview of the ceremony, Kirk Franklin said it best: “This is a moment to come together. We have something very important to say to a world that needs this kind of music, with this particular message, now more than ever. The Stellar Awards is going to provide that as they have for 35 years." I hope you all were able to tune in to see the Stellar Awards Ceremony.
