Pop Smokes Music Lives on with New Album
Five months after the death of rapper Pop Smoke his album was released and debuted at number one on the Billboard Top 200 Chart. Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon was released on July 3rd and was produced by notable rapper 50 Cent.
Featured artists on this album were Quavo, Lil Baby, DaBaby, Swae Lee, Future, Rowdy Rebel, Roddy Ricch, Tyga, KAROL G, Lil Tjay, and King Combs. Some of the rappers appeared on numerous songs on the album.
Pop Smoke was killed on February 19th, 2020 in a home invasion and though his life was cut short at only 20 years old his music has managed to live on. After his single “Welcome to the Party” was released in April of 2019 he gained a lot of attention from many artists in the rap industry.
Pop Smoke’s Brooklyn upbringing along with his smooth and deep voice carried his creative lyrics throughout the album. In this album he also sampled some older R&B songs like “My Whole Life Has Changed” by Ginuwine and ``So Into You'' by Tamia to name a few. His collaboration with older R&B and Soul songs meshed well with flow and songs about fantasies about women showing off his sex appeal.
On the song Tunnel Vision (Outro) he is asked an interview question during the song about what he wants his impact on the music industry to be.
His response was, “Pop Smoke came in and changed the game. Pop Smoke came in and showed them ni***s a new vibe. A whole sound, a whole vibe, a whole movement. Different”.
Along with the release of his album Pop Smoke is still trending as four men have been arrested in the connection of his murder. As his fans continue to mourn the life of Pop Smoke they are accompanied by his words and music that will live on along with his legacy.
