Issa Rae Graces The Cover of Teen Vogue before season 4 of “Insecure” premieres.
Writer, Actor, Producer Issa Rae makes an appearance on the cover of teen vogue’s magazine issue of April edition before the return of the hit show ‘Insecure’. It returned sunday
April 12th @ 9PM EST, Issa Rae sat down with teen vogue to talk about her success and the upcoming season of the hit HBO series. She is the first black woman to not only create but star in the premium series, and she’s inspiring many young black creators to make more black television shows. In an interview Issa was asked about why she doesn’t consider herself an actress and why she took a break before season 4 of Insecure and how much she has grown as a black woman.
I just want to try different things [and] keep getting better … because I’ve never considered myself an actress,” Rae admitted. “I always considered myself a writer-producer — and an actress for fun. I want to make sure that with each project I’m taking on, I’m bringing something to the table and not just showing up as me. A lot of people don’t get this opportunity, so I don’t want to take it for granted.”
She also revealed why it took a while for the new season of insecure and highlighted the importance of her standard of work. “Rae has many standards for the show and she doesn’t and she didn’t want to release anything that wasn’t good for the fans” she also talks about the fun stuff that happens on set, so she made sure she enjoyed it before creating it.
