Adam Sandler’s ‘Uncut Gems’ Is Highly Anticipated

The picture of Adam Sandler dressed in a bright yellow button up and flashy rings alluded curiosity out of people across the world. Many began to repost the photo assuming that Sandler had just adapted a new sense of style. In fact, younger adults captioned the repost with “this is how I plan on dressing in my late 40’s.” However, the outfit came from his stylist, Miyako Bellizzi, who is styling for the upcoming film “Uncut Gems.” The film will not only be starring Sandler, but also Julia Fox, Kevin Garnett, Idina Mendel, and LaKeith Stanfield. Sandler plays a jeweler, named Howard Ratner, who works in the Diamond District of New York City. Ratner gambles on a high-stake bet that results in his downfall. Throughout the movie, he must balance business, family, and his enemies.

Writer-director brothers Josh and Benny Safdie revealed that the film has been in the works for nearly 10 years. They recalled before that they couldn’t get Sandler to tackle the role. In fact, casting was their biggest issue. The constant changes in characters and casting, established a total of 120 drafts of the movie. Additionally, there was a need to achieve the perfect balance of fiction and reality.

“We always love fiction and reality. So, having this real center, with these games, kind of changes your perception of everything around it,” spoke Benny when discussing the elements from the 2012 NBA playoff series.

The process of casting Sandler seemed to be well worth it. The award-winning actor even revealed that initially he loved the script, however, he was scared to take on such a serious role. He is known for his work in the comedic realm, so it’s understandable how intimating the role could’ve been at first. In the end, his inspiration and courage came from his wife, Jackie Sandler.

“I read it and I loved the movie, but I was scared to do it,” he described in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres. “Then, I asked Jackie to read it. We do this together, me and Jackie, we discuss what I’m gonna do and she gives me strength and courage to jump into this stuff. So she read it and was like ‘You have to do it.’ Right when she says I have to do it I go ‘Okay.’ I jumped in and I had to do so many scenes where bad things happened, and I have to be naked and stuff - that’s terrible for everybody - but it was an amazing time.”

“Uncut Gems” was released limited to five theatres in New York City and Los Angeles. The short weekend of viewings left the film with a grossed amount of $525,498. This means there was an average of $105,100, making this the biggest per-screen average for A24 ever. It has been predicted that the film will do just as well during its nationwide release.

If you find yourself bored this holiday, then check out “Uncut Gems!” The movie will be releasing on Christmas Day.
