Netflix x Nickelodeon
Earlier this month, Disney’s new streaming platform, Disney+ was released to the general public. Disney is very pleased with the public’s acceptance of the app, with over 10 Million subscribers after one day. Netflix, which has been at the top of the streaming wars, is not going to sit back and let Disney steal millions of their subscribers which is why they just signed a new deal with an unlikely partner. Netflix and Nickelodeon announced that they were going to team up and produce original content, including new animated movies and TV shows.
One of Nickelodeon's most popular shows has been Spongebob Squarepants, which is probably the reason why Nick and Netflix have decided to create a new musical that is focused on Squidward, the grumpy octopus that wishes that Spongebob didn’t live in Bikini Bottom. Other than Squidward, the two content makers are hoping to make more spin offs of classic Nickelodeon characters, but we have to wait and see who it will be!
Though this new deal is exciting, this isn’t the first time that Nickelodeon and Netflix have worked together. They have created Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus, and Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling, all of which have been successful with viewers.
