Birmingham’s 78th Annual Magic City Classic Recap
October 24th-26th Birmingham AL held their annual McDonald’s Magic City Classic at Legion Field. A city wide tradition where two in-state HBCU’s Alabama A&M and Alabama State play against each other. Each year, the two rivals come together to put on an intense game of football. For this years fierce halftime show against ASU’s Mighty Marching Hornets, A&M’s Marching Maroon and White displayed a heartfelt tribute in memory of Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney. A young girl who had been missing in Birmingham, 10 days before the statewide search came to an end when everyone learned of her passing. A&M’s band honored her during their performance by Spelling out “CupCake” as they played “Jesus Loves Me” and waving purple flags along with the release of purple balloons.
It was truly a beautiful moment to remember. After halftime, going into the 3rd and 4th quarters, the two schools fought for the winning title going into triple overtime, ending in another victory by A&M. Defeating Alabama state leaving the final score at 43-41.
Following the game, there was a live performance by Alabama States very own 2 Chainz who gave fans a concert to remember. A good nights rest and a Sunday Brunch brought the classic weekend to a pleasing end.
