Dave Chappelle Hosts Block Party
Back in the earlier days of August, the nation saw a weekend of mass shootings that occurred in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio. In Ohio, nearly ten people were killed and twenty-seven were injured.
To help the communities of Dayton, comedian Dave Chappelle decided to give back with a benefit concert. The goal was to honor the victims. Chappelle called the concert “Gem City Shine.” On August 25th, artists like Stevie Wonder, Chance the Rapper, and Teyana Taylor showed up to perform and help the cause.
Many don’t know, but Chappelle live roughly twenty miles away from Dayton in Yellow Stone. The comedian was originally supposed to use the time and funds for his birthday celebration. He believed that this was a crucial time to give back to his home state.
“Don’t forget what this place is about,” spoke Chappelle to the audience. “Mankind learned how to fly in this city. Don’t forget what this place is about. When the rest of the country was all slavery, everybody was free in Ohio.”
To top it off, Kanye West opened the event with one of his infamous Sunday Services.
