Lil Nas On The Billboard Charts
If you’re getting tired of Lil Nas X’s hit single, “Old Town Road,” then take a nap. The new artist and his single have been setting records for months now and so far, the luck hasn’t run out. Lil Nas X has officially set the record of having the longest-running single of all time at 19 weeks. Previously, the record was held by R&B singer, Mariah Carey for her song “One Sweet Day,” and Luis Fonsi for “Despacito.” However, Carey passed the throne to Lil Nas gracefully by congratulating him via Twitter!
“Sending love & congrats to @LilNasX on breaking one of the longest running records in history,” she began. “We’ve been blessed to hold this record with a song that means a great deal to @BoyzIIMen and myself and has touched so many. Keep living your best life!”
The humbled artist, Lil Nas used this milestone to share his success story. He explained that he was feeling discouraged about his work. One Saturday he was searching for beats on YouTube and came across “a country-trap sounding masterpiece.” The rest is, in fact, history.
"I jokingly/seriously saw myself as a loner cowboy needing to run away from it all! I went out on my sister’s back porch and listened to the beat OVER & OVER & OVER!! then it came to me!!" Lil Nas wrote on Instagram.
In addition to sitting on the Billboard charts, “Old Town Road” is on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs. The new artist has even reportedly beat Drake’ records on these charts by surpassing 18 weeks.
