The BET Awards 2019: A Full Recap of Everything You Missed
This years BET awards came at no better time. After the debut of Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us, Washington D.C.’s Don't Mute D.C. movement, and just four days after Juneteenth this BET award show was drenched in Black girl magic and black boy joy! It was a night specifically put together to commemorate black people and their achievements in music, film, activism, and philanthropy. Major stars graced the blue carpet this year as we celebrated our blackness unapologetically! Candice Payne was recognized for her philanthropy, Tyler Perry received the Ultimate Icon award for his achievement in the film industry, and our favorite aunty Mary J. Blige was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The night was filled with sentimental moments but what would the BET awards be if it did not consist of a little hood rich shenanigans. Our host for the evening Regina Hall showed up and showed out for her beloved hometown. Opening with the infamous D.C. gogo really set the tone. Taraji couldn’t help but join in and do the butt for her hometown too!
This years ceremony had a huge array of performers, from Cardi B, H.E.R, Lil Nas X, Mary J. Blige, Lizzo Da Baby, Lil Baby, yo Baby, all the baby’s! All jokes aside there was extraordinary talent that graced that stage that evening. Many of whose talents proved worthy for an award! With 19 categories over two dozen entertainers were nominated and nearly half of those nominees went home with awards. The complete list of award recipients is as follows.
