Erykah Badu Drops “Tempted"
The Queen of Neo-Soul, Erykah Badu has returned to the music scene with a new single called "Tempted." Ms. Badu teamed up with James Poyser from The Roots to collaborate and make the tune. Just like many of her other songs, "Tempted" holds a wonderful orchestrated band, instrumental that blends well with the poetic lyrics. Alongside Badu's sweet voice, you hear wonderful bass octave notes being sung from James Poyser.
After doing more research on Erykah Badu's new single's cover art, I learned that "Tempted" is actually a cover of the song "Tempted" by Squeeze. The song was released in 1981 and appears on their fourth album, East Side Story. This rendition of the old 80's song is the first work of music Badu has released since 2015. For many, this new single is not just a cover, but a glimpse of hope that another body of work from her is coming soon. Until then, you can look forward to seeing Ms. Sara Bellum host the Soul Cypher at the annual Soul Train Awards. "Tempted" is available on all streaming platforms, so be sure to check out the new track!
