HBCU Inspired, Beychella
By now, I’m sure we have all seen “Homecoming” on Netflix, better known as, Beychella. This is the infamous documentary featuring Beyonce’s Coachella performance. There are so many things that make this specific performance iconic, like the fact that Beyonce was the FIRST black woman to headline or even the fact that her entire performance was HBCU inspired. It isn’t everyday our favorite artist pay respect to the historically black universities around the world. In the performance, Beyonce touches on every bit of HBCU life from the marching bands, the majorette dancers, and even Greek life. She explains that she never got to attend college because she was always with Destiny’s Child but her father was a Fisk Alum so she still felt connected to the institutions at heart. Homecoming is one of the most important traditions at HBCU’s, this is something everyone looks forward to. Beyonce knew what she was doing with this one! Considering that the Divah Filez is an online HBCU newspaper, we had to shine some light on Queen Bey as she shined a very special light on the importance of HBCU’s.
