Mo'Nique & Steve Get Real on National Television
Mo’Nique is an actress and stand-up comedian that has played a very important role in the movie ‘Precious’. She has won an academy award for the movie ‘Precious’. Mon’Nique is also an ongoing actress that has had an appearance on several other shows such as The Bernie Mac Show, Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam, BET’s Comic View and The Parkers.
Steve Harvey is an American comedian, actor author, television host and producer. He is a world renowned person that has his own television show called Steve Harvey and hosts a popular television show called Family Fued. He hasn’t just been on television shows he has also written several books such as ‘Act like a lady think like a man: what men really think about love’, ‘Relationships, Intimacy, and Commitment, etc.
When it comes to the discussion of Mo’Nique and Steve Harvey talking about Hollywood, they both clashed. She was shut out from the Hollywood industry after her big ordeal of winning an Oscar in 2010.
She had a heated argument with Steve as it started to elevate because he wanted to discuss how she wasn’t completely right about her opinion. When it comes to Mo’Nique’s conversation she has come to the conclusion that she deserves more pay unlike some of the new upcoming actresses that are in the industry. She has said that most of the actress that are in the industry now are making more money than she is.
She was offered a deal from Netflix and it was to take $500,000 or not be on the show and get her own accreditation from proper pay because she is an Oscar winning phenomenon. Steve Harvey has said that she does deserve respect for her pay role of the things that she is going through but the way she handled the situation was not appropriate.
When it came to 51-year-old comedian and actress clashing over her claims that she was shut out of Hollywood. After winning a major award from the Academy Award for being the best supporting actress. Harvey discussed that all of this behavior was inappropriate for the situation. I can see the situation handled in both ways. But I personally thought that the situation could have been handled differently from Mo’Niques perspective. She could have taken the $500,000 although I understand you want the right pay for being known and popularity, but sometimes some businesses may think that you are not fit for the same pay as everyone else and you have to accept that.
Harvey personally said that he doesn’t like to get into heated discussions because he will say something that may hurt someone’s feelings. When it comes to Mo’Niques acting career she says that it was like she was being punished for her actions. In 2015, telling Hollywood Reporter that she was “blackballed” for refusing to “play the game.” I know for sure that she was not happy about the situation.
Steve Harvey publicly criticized her without speaking to her first, he talked about the scene to other African Americans that also worked in Hollywood that did not stand on her side of publicity. He says that he hopes that the things that they have been through, that it shouldn’t get between them. “I hate what’s happening to you,” he said. “I hate what they’re saying that’s not true. I want them to know that you’re caring, that you’re a great mother, that you’re an incredible talent. I don’t like the fact that you’ve been blackballed. You’re too talented to have to worry about all this.” It seems like Steve's intentions were pure, he felt that Mo'Nique could've asked for a raise etc in a better manor so the others wouldn't paint her in a negative light but in my opinion he should have directly talk to Mo'nique on a one on one conversation before taking it public. We definitely understand where Mo'Nique is coming from and wish her all the best as she continues to journey in her career.
