Tuskegee University Receives New President
The Prestigious Tuskegee University will be receiving their 8th president, since the university has been operating. Dr. Lily McNair was selected by the board of Trustees in a unanimous decision and will also serve as the university’s very first female president.
McNair currently holds a leadership position in New York City at Wagner College, where she is the University’s provost and senior Vice President of academic affairs.
McNair is a top ranked executive at her current college and is assured that her duties will not fall short at Tuskegee.
She received her degree from Princeton University in clinical psychology and has previously done research or held a leadership position at the following universities: Spelman College, University of Georgia, the State University of New York at New Paltz, and Vassar College.
McNair’s appointment will begin on July 1st, where she will follow the steps of 7 others who have previously held this title, including the very first president of the college, Booker T. Washington.
Tuskegee’s presidential search lasted for six months. Chair of the BOT, John Page, told media outlets “When we launched our presidential search last October, our goal was to identify someone who could champion both Tuskegee’s historic legacy and her place in the future of higher education...Our Board of Trustees is confident that Dr. McNair brings to Tuskegee the precise skill set required to ensure we continue thriving as one of the nation’s leading HBCUs.”
Tuskegee has been an operating university since the year of 1881 and has seen and overcame many thing. It has been assured that Dr. McNair can fulfill this position and uphold the responsibilities that come with being presidents. Congratulations Dr. McNair and welcome to Skegee Pride!
