FAMU's Accredited Police Force

The Florida A&M University Department of Campus Safety and Security was accredited by t​he Commission of Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc. on February 25, 2015 Similar to any major entity, police forces are held to a set of standards to maintain professionalism and measure efficiency. Universities, hospitals, and other professional organization are all required to be reviewed for accreditation. Some of the standards under review were scope, composition, applicability, and proof of compliance. Each of these standards were reviewed in a variety of areas. These standards can be found of the Commission of Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation website. www.flaccreditation.org/standards.htm FAMU’s is the first HBCU to have an accredited Department of Campus Safety and Security. In the wake of police brutality, FAMU went the extra step to show that the safety of their students is its first priority. Accreditation last for three years, after which FAMU must reapply for accreditation.
