HBCUs Recruitment Award Scholarships

Palm Beach Public Schools Annually Historically Black College-University and Hispanic Serving Institution Recruitment Tour held this week at the Palm Beach County Convention Center was another huge success with 1,570 college acceptances given and $9,275,500 in scholarships awarded. This is up more than $1.5M from last year’s fair. The determination that these schools must gain funds is unbelievable. It has been nothing, but HBCU’s gaining success and funds from scholarships and other necessities. Representatives from more than 21 colleges met with students from 24 District high schools during the two-day event. Thirty aspiring teachers also signed contracts with the school district’s Recruitment and Retention Office, ensuring that once they receive their college degree and teaching certificate, they can come back to Palm Beach County to teach as part of the district’s “Grow Your Own” initiative. Those students were also given information on the Future Educators of America Scholarship Program which awards $1,500 per year to students majoring in education. Last year, $8,023,250 in scholarships was awarded at the event, up $5.1M from the previous year. Being a part of something great as this institute was only the bigger and better picture for students as well as staff members.
