Bad Boys TV Spin-off In The Works
The latest movie to television spin-off is here! The hit Bad Boys movie franchise, starring actors Martin Lawrence and Will Smith, is making it's way to the small screen. The original film follows two contrasting Miami Department detectives, Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence), as they deal with some of the biggest drug operations in Miami.
The star funny men were set to reprise their respective roles in the recently announced upcoming sequels: Bad Boys For Life and Bad Boys IV; however due to scheduling conflicts and the subsequent removal of the film from Sony’s release schedule, Lawrence said that he doubts that the films will ever be made.
The spin-off, however, brings forth a different protagonist. The currently unnamed series is set to center on Gabrielle Union’s character, Special Agent Sydney “Syd” Burnett, introduced in the sequel Bad Boys II. Union portrayed an undercover agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration who shared a familiar tie with Lawrence and also shared a romantic tie with Smith.
Union seems to be a hot commodity following the recent cancellation of her five season run as successful cable news anchor Mary Jane Paul on BET’s hit scripted TV Drama, Being Mary Jane. The show is set to wrap up its fifth and final season with a 2-hour TV movie, paying homage to the show’s roots and giving it proper closure. It will premiere just in time for the new pilot that NBC has officially committed to.
The show is being brought to life by Blacklist writers and producers, Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier. It is set to air next year, stay tuned for more.
