Playboy Magazine to Have Transgender Bunny Next Month
Just a few weeks after the death of Hugh Hefner, Playboy announces that they will have their first transgender playmate.
Ines Rau, a 26-year-old French model, has been selected to be the iconic magazine’s first transgender model and will appear as the November centerfold; the first edition after Mr. Hefner’s death on Sept. 27th. Cooper Hefner, Hugh’s son and the magazine’s chief creative officer, says that, “this speaks volumes to the magazine’s philosophy. It’s the right thing to do, we are at a moment where gender roles are evolving”.
Mr. Hefner selected Rau months ago to be the new look for the magazine. “It’s a chance to take a step back and solidify what the magazine stood for so many years ago and that it is very much still apart of the magazine’s culture,” he stated in his selection of Rau.
However, the selection did come with a little resistance. A lot of people were shocked at the decision the magazine made, but the resistance only makes Rau more determined.
“It makes me even more proud that we have done this. We have to make a mentality change. We have to”.
This is not Playboy’s first run in with issues of the world. They’ve done well with keeping their composure and grace while setting out their playground. They pushed out a few tweets of some controversial “issues” they’ve run into in the past, sure that “history repeats itself”.
