BEYONCE, T.I., CHRIS BROWN AND MORE DONATED TO HURRICANE HARVEY VICTIMS
Celebrities have publicly announced over $10 million in donations to aid relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey in the past few days, taking to social media to publicize their good deeds and encourage others to donate as well.
Kevin Hart jump-started a few celebrity donations with his “Harvey Challenge.” The comedian posted an Instagram video on August 28th pledging $25,000, in which he called upon his famous friends, including Beyoncé, T.I. and Chris Brown, to match his 25k donation to Red Cross.
Many celebrities accepted Hart’s challenge, and others followed in their footsteps.
Houston native, Beyoncé has launched BeyGOOD Houston, a new initiative designed to help those affected by the hurricane. BeyGOOD is working with two local organizations: Bread of Life and Greater Houston Community Foundation. Donations will go towards long-term purchases of essential goods, such as cots, blankets, pillows, baby products, feminine products, wheelchairs, and more.
The first to respond to the call was rapper T.I. who agreed to donate $25,000, but not to the Red Cross.
Shortly after, Chris Brown responded to Hart’s call and donated $100,000, but captioned that his money will be where it’s needed the most stating, “I’m skeptical about Red Cross, so my donation will go to the people.”
DJ Khaled gave $50,000 to the Red Cross while talk show host Wendy Williams donated $25,000 to the organization. “I join Kevin Hart in helping the people in Houston and everyone affected by this tragedy,” Williams wrote. “My heart goes out to you.”
