"Shots Fired" Hosts Star-Studded LA Premiere
“Shots Fired”, a new show set to debut on Fox on March 22nd, deals with the United States today as we suffer with racial discrimination, police shootings, and much more.
The murder mystery, inspired by recent racially charged police shootings that have been prolonging for years, was created by Reggie Rock Bythewood and Gina Prince-Bythewood.
Sanaa Lathan and Stephan James star as Department of Justice officials unraveling twin mysteries in a North Carolina town. One surrounds a high-profile police shooting, which involves an inverted dynamic by having a black officer, played by Tristan “Mack” Wilds, shoot an unarmed white man. The other involves a separate, but possibly related, murder of an African-American boy. (Other stars include Helen Hunt, Richard Dreyfuss and Aisha Hinds.)“Shots Fired” is at heart a mystery story, weaving the familiar pleasures of crime drama with storylines exploring how such events affect families and communities. The aim of the series is to entertain while highlighting racial double standards in how police shootings and other crimes are interpreted, covered, and prosecuted.
On Friday March 17th, FOX screened the new series "Shots Fired" at Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, California. Show creators and executive producers Reggie Bythewood, Gina Prince-Bythewood and Francie Calfo were present along with cast members Sanaa Lathan, Stephan James, Tristan “Mack” Wilds, Stephen Moyer, Aisha Hinds, DeWanda Wise, Conor Leslie, Edwina Findley Dickerson and Yohance Myles.
