OWN Orders a New Tyler Perry Comedy, Cancels Two Others
The Oprah Winfrey Network is adding one new Tyler Perry series, directing many more episodes from two current dramas and canceling two other shows.
The cable network, which saw ratings succeed once it started airing the producer's scripted series, adds comedy The Paynes to its lineup. OWN has been given a new 38-episode order for a comedy series from Tyler Perry called, The Paynes a spinoff of his popular TBS sitcom House of Payne starring LaVan Davis and Cassi Davis. This is the second spinoff from the show, which gave Perry a foot in the door for his successful tv series.
This time, the series sets off to Curtis and Ella Payne trying to relax and soak up moments while being retired in Florida, but that doesn’t necessarily go the way they plan… it is slated to premiere in 2018, and we definitely can’t wait to see how it will turn out.
Meanwhile, Perry’s existing OWN comedy series, Love Thy Neighbor and For Better or Worse, will end their runs after their upcoming seasons are out and over. Love Thy Neighbor will premiere its fourth season on Saturday, March 4, with back-to-back episodes at 9 PM and For Better or Worse will premiere its sixth season on Saturday, June 10, with back-to-back episodes at 9 PM. Both series will air through 2017 with 22 and 20 episodes. OWN President Erik Logan stated,
"We also would like to thank the entire casts of both ‘Love Thy Neighbor’ and ‘For Better or Worse’ who have given us loads of laughs over the years. Both series have had great runs and we appreciate everyone’s hard work and dedication.”
