Boy Scouts Now Accept Transgenders
Just yesterday, the Boy Scouts of America released a statement reading that they will now accept members based on their gender on the application. What does that mean? If you identify with a male, you can join the troupe.
The Associated Press reported that the statement read the words listed below:
“For more than 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America, along with schools, youth sports and other youth organizations, have ultimately deferred to the information on an individual’s birth certificate to determine eligibility for our single-gender programs...However, that approach is no longer sufficient as communities and state laws are interpreting gender identity differently, and these laws vary widely from state to state.”
The Boy Scouts’ chief executive, Michael Surbaugh stated that a birth certificate isn’t a valid reference point in deciding who gets to join the troupe and who does not. With the group already expanding their rights for gays, this is yet another milestone for them.
Even though the group of leaders may receive backlash, they believe they are doing something bigger than themselves and hope to create another safe haven for boys and men to come to to help themselves and others grow.
