89th Annual Academy Awards Nominations (Full List Inside)

The nominations for the 89th annual Academy Awards were just announced this past Tuesday by former Oscar nominees Jennifer Hudson, Gabourey Sidibe and Guillermo Del Toro. The Oscars have been under a lot of fire due to the notable exclusion of People of Color, gaining the popular hashtag #OscarsSoWhite. This year, however, it seems the Academy had taken some notes and has stepped up their game (at least a tad bit), with a total of 6 Black nominees. Other records include Viola Davis becoming the first AA to be nominated for 3 Oscars and the nomination of 3 Black supporting actresses for the first time ever. We can’t help but wonder if Taraji P. Henson’s nom got lost in the mail but, I must admit this is a good start. The Oscars are set to air live on Feb 26 on ABC.
