United Airlines Changing the Way We Fly
United Airlines just added a new traveling feature that you or may not enjoy… most will not.
There is now a “Basic Economy” option, in which the cost of flying is cheaper than the standard Economy flight, but it has some things you need to consider if you choose it. The airline states these rules for the new option:
“You’re allowed to bring a small personal item on board, such as a shoulder bag, backpack, laptop bag or other small item that is 9in. x 10in x 17in (22cm x 25cm x 43cm) or less.”... “Full-size carry-on bags are not allowed unless you’re a Premier member, a primary card member of a qualifying MileagePlus credit card, or a star Alliance Gold member.”
Want to choose the “cheaper” option still?
Also, with this feature, you are not guaranteed a pre-assigned seat and sitting together is not a guarantee either. You will be placed in the last boarding group, unfortunately. So probably not the BEST seating in the house, but still a seat nonetheless.
The checking of bags system is still the same and the in flight options such as the selection of food, drinks, and entertainment options are unchanged.
Their reason for changing a few things? Customer complaints/comments.
Executive vice president and chief commercial officer, Julia Haywood stated,
“Customers have told us that they want more choice and Basic Economy delivers just that…” “by offering low fares while also offering the experience of traveling on our outstanding network, with a variety of on board amenities and great customer service, we are giving our customers an additional travel option from what United offers today.”
They plan to roll this out in 2017, and if you’d like to hear more about it definitely check out https://www.hub.united.com/united-basic-economy-gives-travelers-more-options-2093883887.html today.
So, will you be flying the cheaper way out or the original way?
