Laverne Cox To Star In New CBS Legal Drama!
Laverne Cox is continuously breaking barriers for the LGBTQ community both on and off screen and that is definitely not stopping anytime soon. Yesterday Deadline announced that CBS had given a series order to “Doubt”, a legal drama from former “Grey’s Anatomy” writers and producers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater. Cox will be the first transgender actor to play a transgender series regular in a network broadcast series. She’ll star alongside Katherine Heigl and Steven Pasquale as the two lead characters. It’s unclear what role Cox will play but, it’s almost guaranteed she will kill it. Cox is best known for her role on Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black and quickly became a breakout star. She soon become the first openly Transgender person to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy award in the acting category. She has also been noted as the first African American Trans-person to produce and star in their own show. Other accomplishments include being the first openly transgender on the cover of Time, being the first openly transgender actress to pose nude for the cover of Allure, and getting her own wax figure at Madame Tussands. If you can’t wait for the premiere, you can catch Laverne as Frank N Furter in FOX Live!’s rendition of Rocky Horror Picture Show coming this Halloween.
